Payload Pioneers 2024

Pierre Rouzaud, Space Crew

Pierre Rouzaud went looking for a job in the space industry and founded a company instead.

When Rouzaud went to turn his lifelong interest in space and experience as a software developer into a career, he quickly discovered that the act of finding a job in the industry was no simple task. So he founded Space Crew, an aggregator of space industry jobs.

In just under three years, the company has grown to become the largest platform for space industry jobs postings. It has directed 30,000+ applicants to  roles that cover the whole spectrum of space careers—from engineers to financiers to marketers.

“We aim to demystify the industry and show that anyone can contribute to space exploration,” Rouzaud wrote in his Payload Pioneers application. “By featuring opportunities in non-traditional fields, we inspire people to see how their unique skills can make a difference, increasing interest and involvement in the industry.”

Space mascot: For Rouzaud, the work is all about increasing access to the space industry for the next generation of the workforce. To this end, he’s also working toward making siloed space data more available.

While working at Space Crew, he founded his second company, RocketLaunch.org, which brings together up-to-date information on past and future launches. The site is a one-stop-shop for everything launch, including forward-looking information about upcoming launches, and analysis of the company’s and nation’s past performance getting to orbit.

Together the two companies boast a unique monthly user count of 130,000+ and climbing.

“The ultimate goal of both businesses is to attract many more top minds into the space industry, with the belief that this will end up having a meaningful accelerative impact on our transition to fully-fledged spacefaring civilization,” Rouzaud’s Space Crew co-founder Alex Zed wrote his nomination.
