Payload Pioneers 2023: Mirko Viviano

The next generation of space explorers will represent the diversity of humankind.

At least, that’s the future that Mirko Viviano, the 27-year-old founder and CEO of Louno Space, hopes to build.

“Louno Space uses social media to target both adults and children, promoting all facets of space, including science, engineering, and logistics,” said Viviano, who also works as a systems engineer at MDA Space and Robotics UK. “Our primary commitment lies in inspiring the next generation of space enthusiasts.”

Engaging the people: In his work at Louno Space, Viviano creates educational materials to inspire people of all ages to imagine and engage with the future of space exploration. The team operates primarily through social media, meeting its target audience where they are to inspire an interest in and love of space. Louno also hosts events and collaborates directly with schools and teachers to fulfill its mission.

Expanding access: Viviano believes that the makeup of the company itself should reflect the mission it hopes to achieve. “Our team at Louno Space is composed of LGBTQ+ members, mostly women, people with disabilities and people of colour,” Viviano said. “We are a very diverse team.”

The company—and, by proxy, Viviano—believes that is an essential part of inspiring the next generation of space explorers.

“A way to inspire children is through representation,” Viviano said. “We are dedicated to fostering an environment where everyone feels valued, respected, and empowered to reach their full potential.”
