Sidus Space ($SIDU) secured a key NOAA remote sensing license for panchromatic and shortwave infrared imaging on its LizzieSat birds, the company announced on Wednesday.

“NOAA’s Tier 1 remote sensing license approval is a significant milestone for Sidus Space,” said Sidus CEO Carol Craig. “With PAN and SWIR imaging capabilities, we’re focused on our commitment to practical innovation in space technology while addressing real-world challenges.”

Sidus 101: Sidus is building a fleet of LizzieSat birds, which are designed to support multi-mission capabilities and a data-as-a-service business model.

  • The NOAA license will allow the Florida-based startup to expand its service capabilities to offer high-quality data for government and commercial entities.
  • Leveraging the company’s August acquisition of computing startup Exo-Space, Sidus is integrating onboard AI computing into its satellites to streamline image processing and deliver real-time data to customers.

The ball is rolling: The company is set to launch its first LizzieSat in March 2024 on SpaceX’s Transporter-10 mission after completing environmental testing of its satellite. Sidus expects 2024 to be a year of growth, with the goal of deploying five LizzieSats and increasing its subscription revenue.

Stock check: $SIDU stock jumped ~175% in the last five trading days on the string of positive news. The recent surge will do little to assuage the long-term bag holders, who have seen the stock decline a staggering 99% since going public in 2021.
